Brief introduction
Li Shuzhuo is currently Changjiang Professor of Population and Social Policy Studies, Director of the Institute for Population and Development Studies, Director of the Center for Population and Social Policy Research, Co-director of the Center for Aging and Health Research, the Chief Scientist of the Shaanxi Collaborative Innovation Center for Social Governance and Social Policy Research, School of Public Policy and Administration, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and consulting professor at the Morrison Institute for Population and Resource Studies, Stanford University. He received his Ph.D. in System Engineering in 1991 from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. He is lead professor of the team of “Gender Imbalance and Public Security” and “Population and Social Policy” in the “Program for Changjiang Scholars and Innovative Research Team in Universities” of Ministry of Education of China, lead consultant for the National Office of Care for Girls Campaign China, member of the Public Policy Committee of the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China, member of the Social Sciences Committee of Ministry of Education of China, Member of the Consultative Committee of Xi’an Municipal Government, China. As principal/co-principal investigator, he has received grants from Chinese governments, Natural Science Foundation of China, Social Science Foundation of China, international organizations including UNFPA, UNICEF, UNIFEM and FAO, as well as NIH, NIA, Ford Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Moore Foundation, and Plan International China. His research is focused on population and social development as well as public policies in contemporary transitional China, including population policies, aging and old-age support, rural-urban migrants and social integration, gender imbalance and sustainable social development, ecosystem services and human wellbeing. He has published numerous papers and books, and has won many honors and prizes, including the Fudan Management Award in 2011.
