Center for Aging and Health Research

The Center for Aging and Health Research (CAHR) was established at Xian Jiaotong University in October 2012. The abroad director is Professor WU Zheng from University of Victoria in Canada, the domestic director is Professor LI Shuzhuo from Xian Jiaotong University, and the executive deputy director is Associate Professor ZENG Weihong from Xian Jiaotong University. Our academic committee members include Profs. Karen N. Eggleston of Stanford University, Merril Silverstein of Syracuse University, Iris Chi of University of Southern California in USA, Neena Chappell and Margaret Penning of University of Victoria in Canada.

Aiming at providing a platform for academic research communication and promoting project application of scientific research in related fields, CAHR carries out the comprehensive and prospective research and focuses on the major problems of the development of aging society. Based on the present situation in China, it strengthens the scientific research in social security for elderly, such as quality of life, psychological health, physical health, intergeneration support, participating in social development, long-term care system and industry of aging and other related issues. It proposes strategic countermeasures to solve the problems faced by elderly in China, especially for the issues related to the economic and social development and traditional culture of western China. It will make a long-run plan for scientific research in related fields for the local region and the whole country. It will focus on training the young talents on aging research area to meet the needs of the sustainable development in China and promote the further development of public management.

Based on the over 30 year research accumulation of the long-term cooperation of researchers and foreign academic committee members, CAHR establish a platform for the further collaboration. Since 1980s, researchers have collaborated and completed a series of projects supported by National Institute of Health (NIH, USA), seed grant of CEDHA of Stanford University, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA),United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Ford Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation in China and etc.
