讲座嘉宾简介：
Prof. Stuart Gietel-Basten is associate dean of School of Humanity and Social Science of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Associate Professor in Social Science, with a joint appointment between the Division of Social Science and the new Division of Public Policy. Previously, He was Associate Professor of Social Policy at the University of Oxford. He has also been an adviser in Population and Development at the UK Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology and a Research Scholar at the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis in Austria.
His research focuses on population and policy issues in Asia. In particular, he works on the causes and consequences of low fertility and population ageing.
He have held a number of research grants to study a wide variety of topics relating to demographic change and public policy. These include population policy in Hong Kong; fertility preferences in Beijing and Taipei; sex-selective abortion in Nepal and youth transition in Europe and Asia. He currently holds a grant to explore the relationship between urbanization and childbearing around the world.
He is also the Associate Director of the Leadership in Public Policy Executive Education Program and serve on the Executive Committee of the Institute for Emerging Market Studies.
